Day 2

Turtle Talk with Archleon, Beach Clean, Scavenger Hunt & Greek Dancing

After a short sleep, the day started, (for a few), with a short run along the beach to shake out our legs. We enjoyed our first of many Greek breakfasts on the rooftop patio which overlooks the town of Kyparissia. The 8s got to read the letters they submitted during the selection process of the trip, as a reminder of why they are here and what they want to get out of the trip.

During our daily post breakfast huddle. Laney, Isla and Amelia shared their question of the day and 5 fun facts about Kyparissia.

“ The history of Kyparissia starts in prehistoric times. During the antiquity, it served as an important port for the residents of all the area of Messenia. In the Middle Ages, it provided shelter to many refugees from the Frank-occupied area of Arcadia”.

The Turtle Talk with the Archleon conservation group, was the first activity of the day. There was lots of learning about the loggerhead sea turtle's nesting grounds and the work the group does to help the turtles. We spotted turtle tracks and then helped clean up the beach, (the same one we will be sleeping on)

Headed back to hotel for a quick dip in the pool before venturing off in 3 groups of eight on a walking tour/scavenger hunt of the town. Finished the hunt at the top of the mountain behind the old town of Kyparissia, where the Kypryssiua Castle once stood, and indulged in some well-earned Greek ice cream treats.

Walked back down the mountain and hopped into the pool again before showering up and getting ready for our first Greek dinner.

Ended the night with local legend Yannis teaching students some famous Greek Dance moves.
