Day 5

Day 5 of our Greek adventure began in the most magical way possible – waking up on the beach under a blanket of stars. The previous night, just before falling asleep, we had the extraordinary experience of spotting a couple nesting turtles. We were able to see this up close because we had special red light flashlights which do not disturb the turtles if only shone at their backside. One turtle even laid an impressive 88 eggs! This experience was unforgettable for many!

As we enjoyed breakfast on the beach, secret letters from parents were distributed, a nice reminder of home. Afterward, we helped with a turtle nest survey alongside Archleon volunteers.

We then hiked up the mountain behind Kyparissia to the Greek Orthodox church of St. George, where we were rewarded with breathtaking views. After lunch we had time to explore the town and relax by the pool. Journaling our experiences before dinner allowed us to reflect on the day. We also spent some time working on the friendship bracelets we're making to honor someone special in our group. The evening concluded with a fun activity challenge organized by Mme. Pike and Mr. Doland, and a spectacular sunset that painted the sky in hues of orange and pink.

Andy & Isaac's Post:

Today we woke up on a beach looking at the beautiful Greek sky and the whole group went on a walk early in the morning to search for turtle nests, we met up with the Archelon when we got to the first turtle nest we found. Later in the day the group went on a hike up Kyparrissia mountain to an old Greek Orthodox church. Even though the hike was a very curvy, hot and tiring hike we ended up making it to the church on the top of the mountain and the group got the reward of eating lunch.
