Day 7

 Methoni Castle & Voidakilia Bay

Question of the Day: who was the King of Pylos during the Iliad?

Answer: Nestor

Another full day in the Peloponnese. We drove an hour to Methoni Castle, a stunning medieval fortress built by the Venetians in the 13th century. It has an impressive octagonal tower and a stone bridge, offering amazing views of the Ionian Sea.

Close by is Voidokilia Bay, famous for its almost perfect semicircular shape, clear turquoise waters, and sandy beaches. It's often called Mushroom Bay and is one of Greece's most beautiful beaches.

We hiked the castle walls of the Old Navarino Fortress, where Mr. Floyd told us about the Battle of Navarino Bay in 1827. This epic naval battle saw British, French, and Russian forces defeat the Ottoman-Egyptian fleet, leading to Greek independence.

We swam in the bay before making our way back to the vans and headed into town for an ice cream stop before going back to Kyparissia for dinner.

Tonight we will have some downtime with games, journalling, and preparing for the talent show with the locals tomorrow, at our Greek celebration.
